Balance of Nature Review

We decided to buy their products and try them to see if these supplements really work. This review is our findings, experience and honest opinion.

Your Mother was right, we should be eating more fruits and vegetables. The problem is most of us don’t eat enough. One company has created a supplement that claims to help get all the needed nutrition of fruits and vegetables – Balance of Nature.

Has Balance of Nature possibly given us a way to get enough fruits and vegetables into our diet?

We aimed to find out. We’ve heard their radio ads and TV commercials of customer experiences and testimonials claiming they love Balance of Nature supplements, but we wanted to investigate the products and see for ourselves.

So we bought some.

In this review of Balance of Nature we look to uncover the truth about their Fruits and Veggies supplement, what’s in it, if it works, the cost, where to purchase it, if it’s worth it, and our opinion of what we like and don’t like about these whole fruit and vegetable capsules.

We’ll also review Balance of Nature’s other nutritional product Fiber and Spice. We will also look into customer reviews, the company’s reputation and the quality of their products.

For our research, we approached this as an independent third party and purchased products directly on the company’s website, balanceofnature.com. The results of the Balance of Nature review are our opinion only and are based on our study, research, and experience with the company.

We actually bought their products and tried them.

If you have any questions or information you’d like us to cover in this Balance of Nature review please let us know.

What is Balance of Nature?

Balance of Nature is a whole food USA based supplement company located in Saint George, Utah. Balance of Nature is made in the USA.

Balance of Nature manufactures, produces, markets and sells high quality nutritional products with the goals of nutrition providing health benefits to their customers.

Balance of Nature says their goal is promoting better health and quality of life through preventative nutrition, results based research, and quality education.

Balance of Nature is listed on Better Business Bureau as founded in 1997 and registered in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their website lists a phone number and an address for their headquarters. We found that upon talking to the company and receiving documents from them (all documents included their address) they were very forth coming and open about their headquarters address and location in Saint George, Utah. For some reason they don’t list it on Google.

Dr. Douglas Howard the Company Founder

According to the company the business was launched by Dr. Douglas Howard in 1997. Dr. Howard reportedly has studied nutrition, homeopathy, chiropractic, and medicine round the world. Later Dr. Howard turned much of his time and efforts to research in hope of discovering the key to enhancing proper immune system function and has become of the leaders in studying phytonutrients. As one of the leading researchers in phytonutition Dr. Howard continues to research and lecture around the world.

Balance of Nature products are the culmination of his passion for people, health, and science. In our investigation it appears Dr. Howard is regularly appearing on radio talk shows and lectures around the country.

Dr. Douglas Howard’s research is what Balance of Nature bases their Triad of Health on. The Triad of Health focuses on personal accountability for an individual’s choices in physical health, spiritual health and chemical health (or what nutrients and foods are put into the body).

Balance of Nature Products

Balance of Nature makes and sells two products, ‘Fruits and Veggies’ and ‘Fiber and Spice’ supplements. You can also purchase these two products combined in what the company calls their ‘Whole Health System’.

Many other supplement companies have a large product line so we were surprised at only two products. Technically the Fruits and Veggies is two containers, one for the fruits and one for the veggies, but they are only sold together as the combined product. There is no option to order the fruits or veggies separate on the website but talking to a customer service rep it is possible if requested.

Balance of Nature uses a freeze drying process to dehydrate foods with pressure at cold temperatures. In 1996 Dr. Howard helped develop a unique process called “flash-drying.” Supposedly flash drying preserves 99.9% of every plant nutrient, or phytochemical, naturally found in the food and makes it possible to concentrate whole foods to a powder without losing the balance nature provides.

Balance of Nature states that their products are 100% natural, vine ripened, diabetic safe, vegan, whole food, prenatal approved, made in America and third party tested. They also state their supplements are Non-GMO, no additives/fillers, no extracts, no heat exposure, no added vitamins or other chemicals, no added sugar, no pesticides, no synthetics, and gluten free. They surpass USDA standards and test all of the fruits and veggies that go into their supplements.

We ordered the Whole Health System so we could test all their products. Let’s dig into both of these products and see if they back up what Balance of Nature claims.

Balance of Nature review - Balance of Nature pros and cons - does it really work - Fruit Vegetable Supplements

Fruits & Veggies Supplement

Balance of Nature Fruits and Veggies is actually two separate containers shipped together as one product. Other companies often combine the two into one supplement but that comes with pros and cons.

Both the fruits and the veggies are in vegetarian capsules, which to us is very good.

Why do we like capsules? Capsules are more difficult to use if you plan on using the supplements in smoothies. Capsules can be more convient just to eat instead of having to use the powder. But the main purpose of the capsules was to remove the need of additives and fillers. Natural fruit and vegetables powders will clump. Putting this fruit and vegetable powder into capsules makes it so it won’t clump and means they might not have used fillers to keep it from clumping. Let’s take a look at the ingredients…

Balance of Nature review - fruits and veggies supplement - Fruit and Vegetable Supplements Top 10 - Balance of Nature honest review

Fruits and Veggies Ingredients

The Fruits capsules are 100% produce and contain: Aloe Vera, Apple, Banana, Blueberry, Cherry, Cranberry, Grape, Grapefruit, Lemon, Mango, Orange, Papaya, Pineapple, Raspberry, Strawberry, and Tomato.

The Veggies ingredients are: Broccoli, Cabbage, Carrot, Cauliflower, Cayenne Pepper, Celery Stalk, Garlic, Kale, Onion, Shiitake Mushroom, Soy Bean, Spinach, Wheat Grass, Yam, and Zucchini.

As is typical, we do not know the percentages or amounts of each fruit and vegetable that are in the supplements as their ingredients are listed in alphabetical order. It would be nice to know the amounts of each, but most supplement companies don’t do this.

For the Fruits, antioxidant rich aloe vera, blueberry, cherry, cranberry, lemon, papaya, pineapple, raspberry are all highly beneficial ingredients. Apple, banana, orange, and tomatoes provide nutrients but are the cheaper and unnecessary ingredients in this formula.

For the veggies broccoli, carrot, cayenne pepper, garlic, kale, shiitake mushroom, spinach and wheatgrass are all very high in nutrition.

We were happy to know they are both 100% real food and no additives. Seriously, that’s rare. Most products have fillers and other synthetic additives. Many supplements include vitamins as fillers, like Vitamin C, but we are happy Balance of Nature’s approach is to use produce that contains these natural chemicals…instead of a man made version. Vitamin C is a cheap ingredient and going the natural way scores points with us for the review.

How do Balance of Nature Supplements Taste?

The capsules can either be swallowed, chewed or opened and the ingredients dumped out. We tried each method and all worked fine. Opening the capsules and dumping them out was a slow process though. We enjoyed chewing the Fruit capsules because they tasted good, just like dried fruit powder, and the capsule dissolved no problem. We also opened the capsules and added the contents into a smoothie and it tasted good too.

The Veggie capsules on the other hand didn’t taste as good. Just as you can imagine they tasted like a bunch of vegetables powdered together. Except, they were quite spicy, most likely from the cayenne pepper and garlic. In order to avoid the strong taste, we thought the best way to eat these was to swallow them. One small side effect we had though with swallowing them is we had a few unpleasant burps with a bad after taste if we didn’t eat anything with them. But taking the veggie capsules before or after eating some food or a banana seemed to help.

Fruit & Veggies Directions for Use

The Fruits and Veggies product is recommended to take 3 Fruit and 3 Veggie capsules per day. Balance of Nature says you can take more if you feel you need it. They recommended if feeling sick to take 6 of each daily or even 12 of each if desired. It did feel good that they weren’t concerned about us taking too many at one time because it is just fruit and vegetables inside.

Each bottle contains 90 capsules, so in our order we received a fruits bottle with 90 capsules and a vegetable bottle with 90 capsules.

Each bottle contains a 30 day supply if you take 3 of each per day. You can take them all at once or spread out throughout the day. To us it seems like spread throughout the day would be better for absorption but Balance of Nature said it didn’t matter too much. They did recommend taking the Fruit and Veggies before 2pm to experience the boost in energy.

Is Balance of Nature Safe for Children?

Yes. Whole fruit and vegetables are good for children and with no additives these should be good for them too.

Is Balance of Nature non-GMO?

Yes. Balance of Nature states they do not use any Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) in any products.

Is Balance of Nature Organic?

Balance of Nature doesn’t state it is organic. They said they use many organic fruits and vegetables but is not tested or reviewed to be organic. All of their products are individually tested for pesticides, bacteria, heavy metals, and nutritional content and they accept nothing but the best and purest food.

Does The Fruits and Veggies Supplement Work?

Spoiler Alert: We were happy with the Fruits & Veggies supplement. See below for our review results and opinion.

Fiber & Spice

Balance of Nature also makes a Fiber and Spice product. The Fiber and Spice comes in a 17.6 oz tub and is a powder with a scoop instead of capsules. You can buy Fiber and Spice as its own product or combined in the Whole Health System.

Balance of Nature Fiber and Spice-Fruit and vegetable supplements - top 10 natural supplements

Why Take Fiber and Spice?

Fiber and Spice is a powder that can be mixed into a drink and is used to regulate your bowels, largely to prevent constipation and diarrhea. Its goal is to provide support and balance for your gut. It is a blend of 12 whole fibers and spices for optimal digestive health and nutrition. Let’s take a look at it.

Fiber and Spice Ingredients

Fiber and Spice powder includes: Whole Psyllium Husk, Flax Seed, Whole Apple, Allspice, Cardamom, Cinnamon, Clove, Coriander, Cumin, Fennel Seed, Fenugreek, Ginger, Mustard, Nutmeg, and Turmeric.

Psyllium husks are relatively cheap but effective. The additional spice blend, especially turmeric, are a pretty good overall mix. We were unable to tell the amounts of each spice in the product as is typical with supplements.

Fiber & Spice Directions for Use

It is recommended to take 2 heaping scoops twice daily (morning and evening). The container has a 30 day supply if taking as much as recommended. This seems like a lot, especially for someone just starting with the product. We’d recommend starting out with just 2 scoops once per day.

Balance of Nature says to mix Fiber and Spice powder with a cup of diluted apple juice and drink it. In our review, simply eating it plain wasn’t an option. We added 2 coops to a cup of water and tried to drink it. It wasn’t tasty but we finished it. The next test was with a half cup of apple juice and a half cup of water and it was much better. We tested the Fiber and Spice in a cup of grape juice and the flavor wasn’t as good. We next tried 2 scoops with full strength apple juice. This was our favorite. After stirring and drinking it tasted like a grainy apple cider except that it was cold.

It wasn’t difficult to drink us. It did absorb a lot of liquid so if you let it sit in the cup it was harder to drink. After drinking it we also became thirsty quickly so we would recommend drinking a glass of water afterwards.

We also tested adding the Fiber and Spice to a bowl of oatmeal and that worked great as well, we barely noticed it was included.

Does Fiber and Spice Work?

Spoiler alert: We were quite surprised by outcome of taking Fiber and Spice. It worked from the first day of using it. Stayed tuned for our results and opinion below.

Side Effects of Balance of Nature Products

Balance of Nature states there are no side effects because you are eating whole fruits and vegetables. If you have allergies to individual ingredients there may be some side effects, but overall these are all healthy, real foods and there shouldn’t be any negative side effects. It’s always best to consult with your medical provider before taking supplements of any kind and if there could be complications with current prescriptions you may have.

Looking into customer reviews we could not find any that had negative side effects. The most common complaints and low reviews were about the company billing procedures and processing or orders and not for the product. There were a limited number of reviews that did state the product did nothing for them whether positive or negative and they had no health improvement. For our limited test we did not have any negative side effects.

Health Coaching

For their Preferred Members Balance of Nature offers free health coaching. To become a preferred member a customer must purchase a one-time membership of $24.95 that also includes discounted prices and monthly product subscriptions. Also as a preferred member, you receive a 30 day, money-back guarantee on your initial order. But in the end the health coaching is provided to help with the customer’s results, questions and success.

They state on their website that their health coaches will “guide you to a healthier lifestyle and encourage you to Get Real, with Real Food, Real Science, and Real Nutrition.” It also states: “Our Health Coaching Services were developed as an ongoing source of education and support. Our goal at Balance of Nature is to support our customers in educating themselves on health related issues and attaining optimal health – a balance between physical, spiritual, and chemical health.”

Our interactions with a Balance of Nature health coach was great. They set up a time to talk and followed through with it. We were surprised at how non-salesmen like they were. She was kind and asked questions about setting personal health goals. The focus of the call was really about setting our health goals, and what we wanted to achieve, as well as questions about the product and dosage.

Does Balance of Nature Work?

One their website, balanceofnature.com, they say they are a results based company. They have a lot of radio ad success stories that they claim are 100% real and unsolicited. They also state they expect results. We saw a handful of reviews say they didn’t see any health improvement but the overwhelming majority loved the products.

Based on our contact with the company, the health coaching, and the products Balance of Nature seems to mostly back up the claim to be a results based company.

Balance of Nature has what they call a 120 day health challenge. The focus is to try using the product consistently for 120 days. This is possibly a gimmick to try to get the customer to keep ordering product for 4 months, but based on the product ingredients, customer reviews, and our experience it probably is the amount of time to see some very noticeable results.

Balance of Nature Customer Reviews and Complaints

Balance of Nature is known for its radio ads containing customer success stories. There seems to be a lot of very loyal customers. Some reviews claim that the products have helped their health or medical conditions. Balance of Nature repeatedly states: “This statement has not been evaluated by the FDA. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.” This statement is typical of supplement companies because the FDA can be hard to work with unless you are a large pharmaceutical company. The customer testimonials you have to take with a grain of salt.

Most of their Google, Facebook, Better Business Bureau (BBB), and website reviews were positive and loved the products. As we’ve stated earlier we did not find reviews that stated any negative side effects. Almost all of the negative reviews were related to the processing of orders, automatic shipments, or something related to billing.

Balance of Nature’s Google reviews is excellent at 4.8 stars out of 5. Facebook is 3.2 out of 5. Their BBB rating is a NR, and 18 of their 44 reviews are negative which is not good. Balance of Nature sells their products on Amazon and they have 4 stars out of 5 for their Fruits and Veggies and Whole Health System products and a perfect 5 star seller rating. Overall the BBB rating is concerning, but it is only a small aspect of reviews. After reading through those negative reviews, it caused concern, but ultimately didn’t have much influence for us.

Is Balance of Nature a Hoax or Scam?

The number of complaints on the BBB, Google and Facebook did cause us to dig deeper into the issue of whether Balance of Nature is a hoax or a scam. From our investigation and review we would not consider it as such. It appears to be more of a billing communication issue.

Several reviewers complained they could not cancel the recurring orders. Everything we found out shows you can cancel at any time. The company should have better communication, but ultimately a customer needs to be attentive to understand when their next order will take place (every 28 days) and the details of ordering process. Customers do not have a contract so they are able to cancel at any time. Within the first 30 days as a preferred member we were able to return the product. Recurring billing typically will cause some customers to be angry when a communication issue comes up and this appears to be the issue here.

If you sign up as a Preferred Member be aware and find out your billing schedule and when your monthly deliveries will place.

Where to Buy Balance of Nature?

There are two options to buy Balance of Nature. The first is to buy it on their website, balanceofnature.com or over the phone. The second option is to purchase on Amazon. They do not sell on other large online retailers. Their supplements are also not available at health food stores like Whole Foods, or at other retail stores like Walmart.

Balance of Nature Pricing

Overall the pricing is a little expensive in our opinion. It compares to other supplements but on the high end. The quality of the products is evident but the price is still a little high. If you compare the price of buying 10 servings of fruit or vegetables per day it starts to add up, especially at this variety. Bottom line it comes down to your personal decision.

  • Preferred Membership – One-time $24.95 cost. Provides discount pricing on products and a personal Health Coach. Monthly recurring billing and automatic shipping for your products.
  • Fruits & Veggies – $89.95 without a preferred membership. If a preferred member the price drops to $69.95. Includes Free Shipping.
  • Fiber & Spice – $69.95 without a preferred membership. If a preferred member the price drops to $49.95. Includes Free Shipping.
  • Whole Health System – $159.95 without a preferred membership. If a preferred member the price drops to $109.95. Includes Free Shipping.

While this pricing is similar to other fruit and vegetable supplements it is on the expensive side. We like the quality of the product but it still it is lot of money.

Our Balance of Nature Review

Everything written in this review is our personal opinion. Nothing should be taken as medical advice. This is only our perspective based on our research and experience with ordering products from the Balance of Nature. Make sure to read our Balance of Nature pros and cons down below.

We really liked that these products were 100% produce with no additives or fillers. We are usually very wary of synthetic ingredients so it is a huge plus that this is natural whole food only.

We love that the supplements are vegan, diabetic safe, non-GMO, and vegetarian and support other weight loss diets.

The ingredients are healthy and we like that they emphasize quality. In our opinion there could have been more ingredients included as there are other fruits and vegetables with benefits we’d like to see. But the quality of the products is evident.

The packaging seemed a little dated and to us needed to be updated.

We would like the company to be a little more open about their address and display it. Our investigation didn’t find anything weird or hiding the address on purpose, but we’d recommend displaying the address.

There was a lack of information online about the products and benefits.

Customer service for us was friendly and helpful, no complaints.

We were impressed by the Health Coaching and liked the personal non-salesmenlike attention they gave us.

We were also sent a handwritten card after our first order. Unexpected and a nice personal touch.

The products are on the expensive end. If you plan on ordering more than once we would recommend getting the preferred membership.

There were some concerning reviews, but digging into those reviews and our experience with ordering from the company it appears most of those negative comments are misunderstandings. Overall they have a lot more good reviews than bad.

The Final Verdict

The Fruits & Veggies supplement is real fruit and vegetables. That is a big plus for us. No additives, just produce. The quality of the product is very good in our opinion. Knowing the importance of having enough fruits and vegetables in your diet to give the body nutrients and improve your immune system helps make this product even more valuable.

As we took the Fruit & Veggie pills we loved the taste of the fruits and not so much the veggies (we had to swallow those). We didn’t notice immediate results from taking Balance of Nature but we weren’t expecting to see any since it’s just fruit and vegetables. As time went on, some days you could feel it giving you a slight energy boost, other days you didn’t notice. But overall as we continued taking it we felt slightly more and more healthy. We imagine the benefits for someone who doesn’t eat a lot of fruits and vegetables can be much greater. It’s like eating more fruit and vegetables, it’s not a night and day change but an overall shift.

Fruits & Veggie Score: 4.5

The Fiber & Spice product was surprise for us. The first day after taking it we immediately noticed a change and its benefit of regulating the bowels. This won’t be the same for all people, but for us it worked great. It kept us from being constipated, caused bowel movements to be regular, and even stopped diarrhea. The most obvious benefit was the reduced time it took to have a bowel movement. On top of that we did lose a little weight so we would definitely consider using Fiber and Spice as part of a weight loss diet. We were very happy with this product.

Fiber & Spice Score: 4.8

Overall, we came away impressed with our review and experience with Balance of Nature. There with some aspects we really like and a few things we didn’t. After we finished our Balance of Nature review they made it into our top ten for a number of categories. See how we ranked Balance of Nature in our Top 10 Fruit and Vegetable Supplements.

Summary

Balance of Nature makes some really nice dietary supplements. The two products are a Fruit and Vegetable Supplement and a Dietary Fiber. Their products are made in the USA. We purchased the products and tested them ourselves. We were very impressed with the quality of the products. The main downside is the price is a little expensive. Overall our review of Balance of Nature and their supplements was very positive and we came away impressed and rated them pretty high.
